DUŠKO VLAOVIĆ

I am continuing "my mission" of pasting pictures of interiors from Croatia.
Duško Vlaović, a fashion photographer, has got a flat I could move in right now.
Although it is a man's place it's got everything I need.
Duško had the wall paper made using the cover of his favorite book from the childhood,
the work of our famous painter Edo Murtić.

A gallery of his own photographs above the white Ikea sofa.
I love the combination of low budget and high design.
Eames lounge chair, cheap coat rack, and an old table from a thrift market.

Should I comment  this Capellini orange-pink dresser, white details on the white table....?
Or this oasis with plants?
Red fridge and pipes, grey walls, maple wood, stainless steel, white crockery, dark walnut wood floor....
I am getting weak at my knees.
Speechless.

STUDIO FRANIĆ & ŠEKORANJA

You could find posts about Velvet, a cafe in Zagreb, on many blogs:
I visited this cafe a few years ago (check here),
while there was just "WHITE" VELVET, and a shop gallery next to it.
After some time "BLACK" VELVET,
a cafe with more theatrical dark atmosphere,
opened in place of the shop.
Filipa was also thrilled with the cafe, and wanted to show it to her friend,
but it is a non smoking place, so her friend wasn't very keen on having coffee there.
But at the end, she enjoyed the atmosphere so much that she forgot all about cigarettes.

Saša Šekoranja and Dean Franić have designed a lot of hotels and cafes
as well as the houses.
Down here is a room for a young girl (don't know her age).
Filipa's comment:
Oh, I can imagine a little girl playing with Barbie dolls in this inviting bedroom,
or a teenager crying on this lovely kingsize bed,
because her dad doesn't let her put Lady Gagas posters on the dark wall.

A bedroom in the same flat.
Filipa's comment:
Oh, I can imagine myself splashing  water around this lovely bedroom,
soaking the antique carpet with water and shampoo and then
exercising on this fitness machine while looking myself in the mirror.

This is Saša's own living room.
As he lives alone, his flat can serve him as a polygon for his creative ideas.
Filipa's comment:
Oh, I can imagine this is my living room. Each time I walk in I ask myself:
Have I , by mistake, walked in Natural History Museum?
Did I put white linen covers over my sofas
last time I visited this place, 2 years ago?
Is it a ghost or a guest sitting on the chair in the next room?
This is Saša's bathroom.
My mother in law has exactly the same looking table in her shed.
If I had seen this picture before,
my bathroom would have looked quite different now!
Filipa's comment:
Just my type of the bathroom.
Screaming faces on the column yelling at me and warning me:
Take off your make up before you go to bed!!!!
Mirror, mirror on the wall,
I can not see my face from the flowers, after all.

Well, Saša is great and
such an original artist!
I will paste a lot more pictures of his work in the following weeks,
because he's made some really great designs.

CROATIAN BLOGS

Oooooops! This is like Alice going down the rabbit hole. Suddenly, Croatian blogs about interior design are appearing, one after the other! Link, after link, starting from PASSION DECOR to DECOR MAMMA ,   via SRETNO VRIJEME to  OGNJIŠTE, BLUE HORTENSIA , some arts and crafts blogs such as ART DROPS and then ... just my cup of tea - ANNIE DECOR.... There is even an on line Croatian magazine UREDI SVOJ DOM !
And I believed that MISS DECOR was the only interior blog in my country! And there is RAFAELA , that I have discovered recently.Of course, it's a far cry from scandinavian countries where you could think all women blog non stop, and half of them blog about interiors and lifestyle.
I have forgotten some extremely creative women of Croatian origin who both live in London. DORA and SANIA PELL.
Well, maybe Croatian women are not so much interior junkies, but they are definitely into cooking. I've come across an endless line of blogs about food, recipes and cooking, such as HOME-MADE.
It's such a pity there is so little of Croatian interiors in the blogosphere, it seems that our country is not very famous for good design. Wrong, wrong!
Recently I've been playing with the idea of going MORE public with my blog, but haven't made up my mind yet.
But if I do that, it will just be for one reason: to tell the audience interested in interior design that in Croatia we also have interiors worth seeing.

PASSION DECOR BY MILLIE

Just today,
when I have decided to find more Croatian interiors and post about them,
I stumbled upon a great blog PASSION DECOR BY MILLIE ,
written in my language by an interior decorator from neighboring Monte Negro.
She has interesting posts about some inspiring Croatian interiors.
 Have a look.

This is how her flat looked like before.
The flat after a makeover, you can see here.

Have a look at some other beautiful interiors in Serbia and Monte Negro
at BALKAN BREEZE on her lovely blog.
I am going off to explore the rest of Millie's blog.
It's a rainy, gloomy, Saturday afternoon,
coffee, cakes and some spare time to enjoy my new discovery!

TRENDS and OVERDOSE

I think I might have had an overdose of interior design blogosphere.
I've gone through so many blogs recently, especially Scandinavian  blogs
and I feel as I 've been stuffing myself with great amounts of the most wonderful cake.
I got sick.
As much as I was drooling over simple white and black Scandi interiors in the beginning,
to see just one more perfect, stylish Scandi interior
makes me, sort of nauseous.
It seems that every second female person in Norway, Holland, Sweden or Denmark  writes a blog.
I imagine an army of trendy, creative women, proud of their homes and lifestyle,
styling their houses and taking hundreds of photos
which then they hurry to put on their blogs.
I imagine them as an army of painters, painting their worlds on blog canvases,
each day a brush stroke.
Or an army of chirping birds, tweeting about their worlds,
inspiring the rest of us with the beauty of their worlds and vision.
Anyway, why is that so that women, in aforementioned countries,
have the passion of styling their homes
and showing them off to the rest of the world?
They have mastered this art to perfection.
But after having seen so many Scandi interiors,
you can not help to notice that they are all much alike.
You've seen one trendy scandi house, you've seen them all.

Big eyes are watching you from everywhere.

To ease the perfection and black and white sterile atmosphere,
there are some pink accents here and there.
And wishy -washy tapes as an element of casual fun.
Andy Warhol posters.
Big letters.
Hanging bulbs.

So, these are just some of the trends and styling ideas
that have gone viral throughout the interior blogosphere in nordic countries.
Want to put an Andy Warhol poster on the wall???
